About DNS Tools

Simple, fast tools to look up DNS records, IP addresses and domain information, all in one place.

What is DNS Tools?

DNS Tools brings the most common network checks together on a single, clean page. Enter a domain name or an IP address, choose a tool, and get a clear answer in seconds.

It is made for developers, system administrators, website owners and anyone who needs to understand how a domain or an IP address is set up. There is nothing to install, and you do not need an account.

How it works

Three simple steps from question to answer.

1

Enter a value

Type a domain name such as example.com, or an IP address such as 8.8.8.8, in the search box.

2

Choose a tool

Select one of the tools, such as DNS Lookup, MX Lookup, SPF Check or IP Lookup, next to the Search button.

3

Read the result

The answer appears right on the page, in clear tables and cards, with a helpful message if something goes wrong.

Where the data comes from

Each tool relies on a public, well-known source.

ToolSource
DNS LookupPublic DNS resolvers (Google Public DNS and Cloudflare), queried over HTTPS. Requests are shared between the two for reliability.
MX, SPF, DMARC and DKIM checksThe same public DNS resolvers, asking for MX, address and TXT records (including the _dmarc and _domainkey names). SPF Check also follows the domains included in the record.
What Is My IPThe address of your connection to this website, with the IP Lookup and reverse DNS sources for its details.
Reverse DNSThe same public DNS resolvers, asking for the PTR record of an IP address.
IP LookupIP geolocation data from ip-api.com: location, network provider and ASN.
Domain ToolsRDAP, the modern registration data protocol, using the registry servers listed by IANA.
Blacklist CheckPublic DNS-based blocklists (DNSBL), checked at the same time.

Good to know

A few things that help you read the results with confidence.

  • Results are cached briefly. This keeps the service fast, so a change you made a moment ago may not appear immediately.
  • IP location is an estimate. It is usually reliable at country level and less precise at city level, especially on mobile networks and VPNs.
  • Owner details are often hidden. For privacy, most registries hide personal data. Domain Tools shows the registrar, dates, status and name servers instead.
  • A listing is not always a problem. Blocklists differ in how strict they are. Answers that cannot be trusted are clearly marked as unreliable.
  • Searches are limited per minute. This keeps the service available for everyone. Your IP address is used briefly to count your requests.
  • Your search is sent to public services. The value you enter is passed to the sources above to get an answer, so do not search for anything you consider confidential.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers to common questions.

Why does my domain show no records?

Either the domain does not exist, or it has no record of the type you asked for. For example, a domain without email has no MX records. DNS Lookup tells you when a domain does not exist at all.

Why is a result different from my own test?

Different DNS resolvers keep answers in memory for different lengths of time, and this site also caches results briefly. Values can therefore differ for a short while after a change.

Can I search a private IP address such as 192.168.1.1?

No. Private and reserved addresses are not public, so no location or reverse DNS data exists for them.

Why does Reverse DNS sometimes find nothing?

The reverse record is set by whoever controls the IP address, and many addresses simply have none. This is normal and does not mean something is broken.

Why can I not see who owns a domain?

Registries and registrars hide personal contact details by default to protect privacy. You can still see the registrar, the registration and expiry dates, and the domain status.
